Bringing Monthly Updates and Guidance to RGV CPR Aligned Instructors

❤️ Happy National Heart Month! ❤️

February is National Heart Month, a time to raise awareness about heart disease—the leading cause of death in the U.S.—and encourage heart-healthy habits. This month, let's take action to protect our hearts and the hearts of those around us! 💪💙

Ways to promote heart health this month:

Educate others on heart disease risk factors and prevention strategies 📚

Get moving with regular physical activity 🏃‍♂️🏋️‍♀️

Eat heart-healthy foods and quit smoking 🍎🚭

Prioritize screenings and early detection 🩺

Together, we can raise awareness, promote prevention, and save lives!

💻 Blended Learning (Hybrid Courses) & Assigning Digital Products

Every month the American Heart Association holds free webinars to inform instructors about the benefits and “how-to’s” of offering blended learning courses to your students as well as a webinar on using Training Central to issue digital products (online courses and eBooks) to your students. This months webinar dates are:

📅 February 26th at 2:00 p.m. – Training Central webinar

Don’t miss out on these valuable resources!

🩸 Become a STOP THE BLEED Instructor!

Did you know that as an American Heart Association instructor you qualify to become a Stop The Bleed Instructor? Stop The Bleed is a 1.5-hour course that is required by many organizations (including public schools) that teaches advanced bleeding control measures. To become an instructor, you must first be certified in Stop The Bleed.

RGV CPR will be holding a Stop The Bleed class especially for aligned instructors on Saturday, February 22nd at 1:00 p.m. The fee for the class is $25. You will receive your certification immediately after the course as well as instructions on how to apply to become an instructorIt is FREE to become an instructor.

📌 COMPLIANCE CORNER: Following AHA Guidelines for Course Exams

As part of our responsibility as an American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center, we periodically review teaching and testing practices to ensure alignment with AHA guidelines. One of the indicators we monitor is the outcome of course exams. Recently, we have noticed that some instructors consistently grade ALL their students 100% on their exams across every class. While high scores are certainly a positive outcome, such uniformity is rare and has prompted us to address this to ensure that everything aligns with AHA testing standards.

Please review the “Exam” section of your AHA Instructor Manual, which outlines the guidelines for administering exams and remediation if your student fails. Remember, a passing grade is 84% and above. Also view the RGV CPR Policies and Procedures for Student Exam Grading Policy. If you have any questions or are facing challenges regarding the exam process, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d be happy to address any concerns or provide additional support.

Thank you for your dedication to your students and for your cooperation in maintaining the high standards we uphold at RGV CPR.
