For most employers and licensing boards, no. OSHA does not accept online-only CPR for workplace training, because hands-on skills practice is required. Our HeartCode BLS blended course is different: it includes a hands-on skills session with an AHA instructor and earns the same AHA certification card. See “My nursing or healthcare program says ‘no online courses’…” below.
Yes, HeartCode BLS is not an online-only course. It’s the American Heart Association’s blended learning BLS course, which has two required parts:Online learning: you complete the AHA’s HeartCode BLS lessons at your own pace.Hands-on skills session: you come to RGV CPR to practice and test CPR, AED use and rescue breathing on manikins with an AHA instructor. The hands-on skills session is what makes the course valid. Online-only courses skip it, and that’s why schools and employers reject them. When you pass both parts, you receive the same American Heart Association BLS Provider eCard as students who take our classroom BLS class. It’s the same certification, valid for the same two years. When your school says “no online courses,” it usually means no online-only CPR.
BLS (Basic Life Support) is for healthcare workers and healthcare students: nurses, medical assistants, dental teams, EMTs and nursing students. CPR/First Aid (Heartsaver) is for everyone else: teachers, childcare staff, coaches, office and industrial workers, and parents. If your job or school asked for “BLS for Healthcare Providers,” choose BLS.
