Basic Life Support (BLS) Skills Session
For those who seek BLS (basic life support) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) and want an alternative to the classroom course, RGV CPR offers the BLS skills session which is the final, hands-on part of the course. Here's how it works:
RGV CPR offers the American Heart Association (AHA) HeartCode® BLS course which is an online/classroom blended format.
Here's how it works:
Purchase and complete your HeartCode® BLS from the American Heart Association
Once you have successfully completed your HeartCode® BLS online course, email us a PDF of your online completion certificate and register for a skills session (below). Skills sessions must be scheduled no more than 60 days from completion date printed on the online completion certificate.
Attend your skills session (hands-on part of the course).
Receive your AHA BLS Provider certification card valid for 2 years.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We have very limited classes/skills sessions scheduled for the month of October 2020. Please view our schedule for this skills session by clicking the red "Book It" button below prior to purchase of the HeartCode® BLS from the American Heart Association.
What to Expect at Your Skills Session Appointment
You will be asked to present your HeartCode® BLS certificate of completion.
You will practice the following skills for adult and infant BLS: Chest compressions, pocket-mask ventilations, bag-mask ventilations, and AED use.
Practice the skills in sequence as a single rescuer and then as part of a 2-rescuer team.
You will be tested on your skills using the skills testing checklists below.
Recieve your AHA BLS certification card valid for 2 years.
HeartCode® BLS Certificate Verification
We must be able to verify your online completion certificate in order for you to be able to move on to the skills session. We use the following websites to verify certificate authenticity:
If you did not purchase the BLS online portion of the course directly from RGV CPR or the AHA, you will need to verify your certificate number at the above sites before scheduling your skills session with us. Some hospitals that offer the HeartCode® BLS online course use certificate numbers that we can not verify.
