Pediatric Advanced Life Support
(PALS) Skills Session
For those who seek PALS (pediatric advanced life support) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) and want an alternative to the classroom course,, RGV CPR offers the PALS skills session which is the final part of the 3-part process to certification. Here's how it works:

Purchase and complete the AHA HeartCode® PALS online course (eLearning, simulation, multiple-choice exam).

Register (see below) for your in-person skills session. Skills sessions must be scheduled no more than 60 days from completion date printed on the online completion certificate.

Attend your skills session (be sure to print and bring your HeartCode® PALS certificate of completion).
IMPORTANT NOTE: We have very limited classes/skills sessions scheduled for the month of October 2020. Please view our schedule for this skills session by clicking the red "Book It" button below prior to purchase of the HeartCode® BLS from the American Heart Association.
What to Expect at Your Skills Session Appointment

You will be asked to present your HeartCode® PALS certificate of completion.

You will practice the following skills for Child and infant BLS: Chest compressions, pocket-mask ventilations, bag-mask ventilations, and AED use

Practice the skills in sequence as a single rescuer and then part of a 2-rescuer team.

You will be tested on your skills using these skills testing checklists.

Airway management skills practice: Instructor will demonstrate oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway insertion. You will then have an opportunity to practice these skills and then be tested using this Airway Management Skills Testing Checklist.

Vascular access/IO insertion: Instructor will demonstrate IO insertion. You will then have an opportunity to practice these skills and then be tested using this Vascular Access Skills Checklist.

Megacode practice as team leader using these scenarios/checklists (1 respiratory or shock and 1 cardiac).

Megacode test (1 respiratoryor shock and 1 cardiac) as team leader using 2 of these scenarios/checklists)

Recieve your AHA PALS certification card valid for 2 years.
HeartCode® PALS Certificate Verification
Students must print and bring certification of completion of the HeartCode® PALS online course for verification by instructor. We use the following websites to verify certificate authenticity:
If you did not purchase the PALS online portion of the course directly from the AHA, you will need to verify your certificate number at the above sites before scheduling your skills session with us. Some hospitals that offer the HeartCode® PALS online course use certificate numbers that we can not verify.
